~Decide your budget before shopping for services.

~If applicable, ask your caterer about their policy on pricing children.

~Determine how much alcohol to buy, if any.

~Ask your caterer about additional charges. You could be paying for cake cutting, buffet tables, consultations, etc.

~Visit your caterer's kitchen.

~Ask your caterer for a "certificate of insurance".

~Ask for a copy of a "health permit".

~Saturday is the most popular day, as well as the most expensive, for catering. Other days of the week can sometimes be priced less. Remember to book early for a Saturday event, especially in the summer season or December.

~Meats are more expensive than pasta and vegetables.

~Smaller parties cost more per person than larger parties.

~When renting a reception location, ask if they provide tables and chairs.

~Will you need to rent any equipment (i.e., tables, chairs, etc)?

~Disposable plates are less expensive than china.
